foundation and INITIATIVE
“Between true and false usually lies an infinity” – Edy Portmann
Mission
FMsquare promotes fuzzy logic infinite truth values for business, governmental, and societal challenges. With its holistic approach, fuzzy logic combines biological and artificial intelligence and is inclusive, not exclusive. This mindset supports life in harmony with each other and with nature. As it permits not only true-false, but infinite choices, it constitutes a fundament of a theory of rejectable options. FMsquare is based in Sursee, a Swiss city with liberating truth-seeking history.
In the 13th century, Sursee was first granted city rights, which were then continuously increased and, like a rising membership curve, more and more civil rights were added. Yet, having only one political choice was still tyranny, but in 1386, the Battle of Sempach brought sovereignty. Sursee was allowed more freedom and, using the medieval logic of dialectic, the choices of its citizens gradually expanded. Now the city is pro-choice on all issues, but the town hall, in which dialectic was used, still conveys an idea of its truth-seeking history. This is why it also stands for FMsquare.
Fuzzy logic can handle vague semantic information. It results in algorithms and systems that support human reasoning, leveraging interactive, understandable, and evident digital tools that complement human intelligence instead of replacing it. We thereby help empower individuals in a humanistic tradition, emphasizing the value of human beings in a digital and globalized world.
