The Foundation

Fuzzy management methods address the application of fuzzy logic to managerial decision making processes. The purpose of the FMsquare foundation is to use the fuzzy logic to solve business, economic and social problems. In particular, concepts and methods for web-based services are to be made available to the public and the private sector. The foundation is international and supports the following goals:

Research

Conduct research and development projects to promote the use of fuzzy logic for science, economics and society.

Books

Publication of books respectively eBooks and / or book series for research and dissemination of fuzzy management methods.

Events

Organization of events for the exchange of research contributions and practical case studies for the purpose of the foundation.

Publicity

Launch of magazines respectively eJournals to promote knowledge about fuzzy management methods for society, science and business.

The foundation has charitable character and does not pursue any profit-making purpose. The donor reserves based on Art. 86a ZGB and under consideration the statutory conditions expressly the right to change the purpose of the foundation.

People

Andreas Meier was a professor of data science at the faculty of economics and social sciences of the University of Fribourg. His research areas included eBusiness, eGovernment and information management. After music studies in Vienna, he graduated in mathematics at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and got a PhD and habilitation degree at the institute for computer science. He conducted research at the IBM Research Lab in California, was a systems engineer at IBM Switzerland, a director at a swiss bank corporation and a member of the executive board of the CSS insurance company.

Henrik Stormer is a lecturer in mobile software development at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. After studying computer science at the University of Saarbrücken with degree as a computer scientist he received his doctorate in 2004 at the University of Zurich. He then spent 5 years as a senior assistant at the University of Friborg, where he received a Ph.D. in the field of personalization of online shops. Between 2008 and 2015 he worked in the private sector as a project manager in various Software projects. His interests are mobile software development, process management and e-commerce.

Sara D’Onofrio is a PhD student in computer science at the Human-IST Institute of the University of Fribourg. She holds a bilingual Bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Fribourg and a Master’s degree in business administration with specialization in information systems from the University of Bern. She attended further education courses at other Universities in Europe and participated in various conferences in Europe, South America and Canada. Her research interests lie in the area of soft and cognitive computing, human-machine-interaction and smart cities. Sara’s former employers include the Swiss Post, University of Bern, Kilchherr AG, POWERneting AG and Fust AG.

Edy Portmann is Swiss Post Professor of computer science at the Human-IST Institute of the University of Fribourg. His transdisciplinary research focuses on cognitive computing and its application to cities. After an apprenticeship as an electrician, he studied information systems, business as well as economics and, later, got a doctorate in computer science. Among others, he worked for Swisscom, PwC and EY. In addition, Edy Portmann was also a researcher at the universities of Singapore, Berkeley and Bern.

Michael Kaufmann is professor at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Information Technology. He is coordinator of the research team Data Intelligence, examining methods and technologies for intelligent data management. Michael Kaufmann studied computer science, law and psychology at the University of Fribourg. With extra-occupational doctoral studies, he received his Ph.D. in Computer science on the topic of inductive fuzzy classification in marketing analytics. He worked at PostFinance as a data warehouse poweruser in corporate development; Later on, at Mobiliar Insurance as a data architect in the enterprise architecture unit; and as a business analyst at FIVE Informatik AG. Since 2014 he works at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences in teaching and research.
